Beyond Time #Words Challenge

“Random word poetry is something that Jane Dougherty started writing last year. I think this is a great way to find inspiration, so let’s try it,” says Colleen. She has generated a list of 100 random words. The idea is to read through the words, searching for a word that sparks your inspiration. If you want to join the fun, click here for the word list. Thank you for the inspiration Colleen.

Beyond Time

On the curving edge of time
Sneak moments, shimmering with light,
Gliding with ease, still alive,
Eloquent beyond words and I watch…

They keep coming back
To warm our hearts, to harmonize,
To illumine the truths we forget –
Waves of life keep tossing.

We pursue a walking mirror
That echoes eclectic charms
Birthday delights, innocent chatter
Games that governed our hours.

Sometimes I pretend to fall
Into the hourglass of time
Clocks stand still but I walk
To inhale the odor of an old oasis.

The Lady of the Snows #Ekphrastic #Poetry

Boughton, George Henry; The Lady of the Snows; Walker Art Gallery; http://www.artuk.org/artworks/the-lady-of-the-snows-97671

This week Colleen ‘s #TankaTuesday challenge explores Ekphrastic poetry, inspired by the work of art. We have the freedom to write free verse but then write one syllabic poem too.

The Lady of the Snows

Each morning
when eastern rim glows pink,
the lady of snow spreads her mittened hands,
cedes her power and walks across the river, flowing leisurely.

She tarries just a second
to shake off the snowflakes from her attire,
to gather the beams of morning sun,
to savor the silence of winter morn,
to borrow beauty from mother nature.

Alone she walks with élan
across the bridge, beyond the era
Lilting with life.
Taciturn by nature,
with tranquil transition in her eyes,
she breathes a message of giving,
giving all that you gather.

Anger – blind alley
an irresistible walk
for some bullish freaks

Bare teeth, bulging eyes
hurl hollow words of dissent
to intimidate

Whimsical horses
with stirrups of fervent ire
perilous morons

Do they care for you?
beware, they are pretenders
with capricious love

#TankaTuesday #Photoprompt – Heaven

Picture by photographer, Terri Webster Schrandt

Photo prompts kick my muse even when she is cross with me! Such a beautiful picture of Mother Nature calms her down perfectly to write syllabic poetry.

Want to see heaven?
where morning clouds glow soft pink.
come to our backyard
snow fairies dance here with glee
we revel with them all day.

Cold can not touch us
that is the bliss of childhood!
giggles thaw the snow,
the thrill of togetherness
embraced by wild ecstasy.

My New Friend…

New poem for new year?

“Forget it,” says my snooty muse – irate and imperious. “Go ahead with your fiction and the new friend you’ve found.”

“Why are you sulking?”

“NO! I feel stifled when you write descriptive paragraphs for your new friend.”

“Why can’t a poet write a novel?” I ask

“You are no good at that! I know you are a person of few words. For years I’ve been your mentor and now you’ve abandoned me.”

“But this is a temporary phase. This story has been waiting to burst out. Let me finish it.”

“Really? I challenge you to finish it this year. I am sure you are going to get wedged in those dark corridors. Only I know how to pull you out.”

“Now that is poor encouragement, goldy.”

“I am familiar with your dismal progress. Each time I’ve to step in to show you the light that glows at the horizon.”

“I know I am incomplete without you. I promise to be with you each morning.”

“This is no truce. I’ll choose my own time. Right now I am in an adventurous mood.”

“You’ve come home after a month. Share your stories with me.” I try to ground her.

“Ha!”she rebuffs me and bounds out. “Don’t try to humor me. I know you too well.”

My new friend embraces me and we totter forward. Hope has been my dearest buddy.
