Moments that Echo

Grandma clicked this picture
How many moons ago
I don’t know.

What I know is that she
Captured the joy of the moment,
the love that could never fade,
the beaming faces, the stars in the eyes,
the eternal hug – sibling bonding etched forever.

Royal robes of Mother Nature
fluttered in the fall breeze
Dad stood behind us,
Could there be a better symbol
of childhood innocence and parental pride?

Ah! How that love melts!
Time dust turns into rust;
The coating gets thicker each day,
Echoes of longing refuse to subside
as I look at this precious picture.

#NewRelease: Beyond the Fetters

I am delighted to share this info with you. My new book – Beyond the Fetters (A Novel) will be released on October 1, 2025.

This is an ambitious project, dear to my heart as I’ve been working on it for almost seven years.

Book Blurb:

Some babies are born with invisible fetters. They may strut about in their homes with wishes of flying high, but their wings never grow, and if they do, they are clipped by the diktats of traditions. Such stories remain within the hearts of girls, as their lips are sealed by cultural compulsions.

Earthy is one such girl, but her determination to break free could never be vanquished. She yearns to grow up again, to feel the sunshine that filters through the arms of her parents, to soak in the showers of harmony, to giggle with abandon and swirl with her dreams.

The sudden, untimely demise of her father rips her whole world apart, and the little joys of childhood vanish. From emotional deluge to resilience and detachment, she treads the paths of her life, struggling to rise above the average.

Dolly’s freedom takes her away from her family, and her choices boomerang. Imperceptible fetters follow her in the garb of love that she chooses. Should we pay attention to Grandma’s wise words – “We are tied to our destiny?” ‘Beyond the Fetters’ explores the possibilities of girls looking beyond their so-called destiny.

I look forward to the support of all my readers and buddies. Thank you.

#Truth? #PhotoPrompt #WDYS

Truth?

Shadows sway near them, blurring boundaries
Moments of betrayal bleed,
foggy windows don’t lie.

In a trance, I watch how flimsy is trust
how relationships wither
on obscure paths of love.

The definition of deceit is vague,
clouded by lies of judgment
truth holds various hues!

Your truth crouches behind the man you chose
My truth is so translucent
Yet it is soaked in blood.

hazy sky echoes
songs of our favorite haunt
silent love saunters
remnants evoke sighing sounds
muffled in the hues of time.

hushed by static time
tea cups whisper our secrets
a long list of vows
only clouds could understand
the fury of our passion.

Thanks to Willow and Colleen for the inspiration to write syllabic poetry. The challenge this week is to imagine a color, smell, sound, or image that triggers a memory.

#TankaTuesday – Shadorma

Alma Thomas, Wind and Crepe Myrtle Concerto, 1973, acrylic on canvas, Smithsonian American Art Museum

Entwined

Open arms,
inhale the fragrance
of petals,
soft shower
of romance that soaks our souls
in the bliss of thrill.

Holding hands,
feel the ecstasy,
the passion,
the moment
of wrapping the pink softness
of unexplored path.

Do we need
any assurance,
any oath?
our souls know
how they’re knotted together
in the maze of pink.

Thanks to Melissa and Colleen for the inspiration to write syllabic poetry. This week’s challenge is to write a Shadorma series (two or three, I’ll let you pick) using the paintings in this post. You may use one painting to inspire all your syllabic poetry, or perhaps you’d like to use several. Look at the paintings, their colors, and titles, and see where they take you.

A Shadorma consists of a six-line stanza (or sestet). Each stanza is written as 3-5-3-3-7-5 for a total of 26 syllables with no set rhyme scheme. When writing a Shadorma, concentrate on a specific subject. Add a title.

Thank you for reading my poetry.
