What Remains…

Clouds confer in the calm mirror
Of emerald lake
Is this house habitable?

They had seen happier times,
Watched winsome faces
Heard the squeals of delight.

When children converged by the lake
Their games charmed Mother Nature
Spellbound, she let the spring linger just for them.

Time robbed those carefree days
How fast did they grow!
From Kindergarten to High School.

The house grew quieter each day
As the youngsters flew away
In pursuit of their dreams.

Now autumn rests here
With her muted colors and limp leaves
Crimson couldn’t capture the fleeting joy. 

Carved into the mirror of the lake
Are memories that march silently
Seen only by the clouds.

Misty Spring

I live
on memories,
the whistling wind, the breeze,
the mist, the blooming trees
whisper your words 
of love.

Today
the mist tarries
outside my French window
waving at me, gently
my heart misses
a beat.

One more
memory looms,
emerging from corners
beckoning me to sing
the song of bees
with glee.

Thanks to Selma and Colleen for the inspiration to write syllabic poetry. The challenge this week is to write poetry that portrays movement. Poetry is a moving target; reality is always moving. Choose any syllabic form and write what’s on your mind. I chose a Badger’s Hexastich.

A Badger’s Hexastich is a poem of 6 lines with 2-4-6-6-4-2 syllables per line. It is unrhymed, with optional rising and falling end-words.

Whispers #Poetry #WDYS

Whispers

Moments walked by unseen,
their mirth locked within our hearts
We swing and see through the time mirror –
memorabilia that is dearer than life.

Who knows when life slipped away?
Whispers never betray.
Souvenirs sing of those days,
when smiles shimmered like rays.

When choices rested with us,
when clouds carried us far,
into their velvety windows
that were open from all sides.

When the echoes of our laughter
regaled the birds; they watched silently,
mystified by the thrill of the moment –
A moment that still whispers.

Promises pause to catch them
while they saunter by, knowing well
Their traces can never be wiped away
Like the fragrance of jasmine.

I rarely share the reviews of my books here, but this one is exceptional as I am thrilled at the comprehensive nature of this review. Many thanks to Adam, whom I met recently through his analyses of the poems shared by blogger buddies.

I am delighted to note that he could discern the healing power of my poetry, that I had forgotten. I am reading ‘Hues of Hope’ again to soothe my spirit, which started believing that words are hollow and meaningless after a devastating loss.

The Fool

Fools
think they
can conquer
even the minds.
Blowing their trumpet,
they plan to take big strides,
oblivious of people
who hold the absolute power.
Their selfish thoughts lead them to their doom.
Annals of history are before you.

Our worries can never change the future
Wait and hope is the best conviction
Nobody owns the place he claims
All perish in the hourglass
and go empty handed.
Fools fail to foresee
those divine plans.
Arrogance
mentors
them.

Thanks to Colleen and Willow for the inspiration to write syllabic poetry. The challenge this week is to focus on the theme, which is the Fool card from the Tarot. Choose an image and use the art on the card(s) to inspire your poetic reading of the fool card. You can use any syllabic form you’d like.

I have written a double Etheree.

An Etheree is a type of poem which consists of 10 lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 syllables. Etheree can also be reversed and written 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. So it is called a double Etheree.
