That’s Not Me.
She stands alone,
oblivious of her surroundings
Untouched by the waves
striking at her feet,
Her gray robes drenched in melancholy.
I stand in the cabana and watch
Is this me?
I doubt it!
I was full of life, I loved the beach,
The waves filled my heart,
each one brought new joy
I could hold the sea breeze in my hands
I could hear the call of serenity
Dusk or dawn, rain or shine,
the ocean spoke to me.
And now, it’s so quiet.
It has swallowed all light
It’s gloomy and gray
It only echoes darkness
But these are echoes of winter
Of twilight, of dissonance
Only she knows them, not me.
Yes, that’s not me.

I could feel a lot of change and layers in this Greta poem
and ending with not me had a powerful vibe
I am delighted to hear that, Yvette. Thank you.
😊🙏🧡
I read this over and over. Please, let this not be me (the poet says, I say) yet at times, we’re afraid it is. Profound poem, Balroop.
She and I are the same, only the younger self is trying to deny the reality, Pam. Sometimes we have to do so to get out of the dark avenues. Thanks for understanding the truth.
Oh yes, I think it’s better that our younger selves don’t know what we’re ‘in for.’ Innocence and ignorance can help us carry on until the tough stuff happens. That’s when we find out how strong we are. ❤
So true! 🥰 Trying to find that strength.
The feeling of melancholy alone at the shoreline… a deeply resonant poem, Balroop. It captures that unsettling moment when joy feels out of reach, but the heart still refuses to surrender. Beautiful.
You have understood the spirit of this poem so well, Randall. Thank you for sharing your lovely thoughts.
We have all been in denial sometime or the other. You express it so beautifully and profoundly. A deeply moving write, Balroop.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts.
You are welcome.
Read it again and again . Deep emotions expressed flawlessly.
