#Poetry – Theme prompt: 24 Seasons

Yellow Gold

Finally, my muse pulled me out of self-imposed exile and took me far away into the large fields of sunflowers. Thousands of smiles greeted me, as I watched with glee, my heart woke up to embrace positivity floating in the air. Each yellow petal – a panacea for grieving hearts; a pertinent reminder of joy; a paragon of light that reignites the urge to live.

childhood charm rebounds
petal games we loved to play –
innocent pleasure.
little knowing the value
of golden glow that’s divine.

Thanks to Colleen for the inspiration to write syllabic poetry.

The challenge this week is to write Tanka or Tanka prose with the kigo word ‘Sunflower.’

Fears

The day fears gathered in hordes, the day their attack became vicious, she lay in the darkness of her attic, clouded by the unknown mist, too naive to understand the proximity of clawed hands, fastening on her pristine beauty. The keys bounced around her, drifting away with each effort.

Petrified, she lay
melting in abyss of grief
doors slam around her
any effort to unlatch
a struggle she despises.

Colleen’s poetry writing invitation for this week:

Write a syllabic poem of your choice using synonyms for the words: “Close & Open.” Please DO NOT use the words, synonyms only.

My synonyms are: Slam & Unlatch. Thank you for the inspiration Colleen.

Coherent Colors

Colors condescend here and mingle with perfect ease. Green dives into blue to create a calm combination. Peach perches on rocky terrain. I rise with the mist to kiss the clouds.  A wondrous land beckons me far beyond the fragrance of fir trees. An empowering lift. A milky channel opens to welcome a weary soul.

An artist at work
unfurling serenity
breathing in colors
her easel is eclectic
divine power mentors her.

Thanks to Colleen for the inspiration. This week’s challenge is photo prompt and I chose to write Tanka prose.

Thank you.

Astute Artist #Ekphrastic #Poetry

Portrait of Lady Agnew of Lochnaw (1865-1932) by John Singer Sargent, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons

Astute Artist

She knew her charm, she could entice within moments, she had slayed many with her looks yet this artist chose to paint the Lady of Conceited Charisma. Confident of softening her expressions, he devoted one hour everyday to sketch her portrait and left in a hurry, pretending loss of inspiration. The chagrin of the lady mounted with each passing day but the humility with which he bowed his head and promised to complete the commissioned work within a month touched her heart.

He chose lavender
that could soften the semblance
she liked fiery red
he painted calm nuances
she yearned for a love embrace.

Thanks to Colleen for the inspiration.

This week’s challenge is Ekphrastic poetry, inspired by a work of art. I chose tanka prose. There are two basic forms in classic tanka prose: Preface (explanation) and the Poem Tale (episodic narration.)

Thank you.

People Pleasers

Bosses exult at their loyalty and sincerity. Friends mock their “loving nature.” Siblings bully them into believing that they are loved. Spouses manipulate them to get things done. The acquiescence and complacence of people pleasers baffles me. Some live in the make-believe world of self-admiration, thinking they are exceptional human beings, born to be altruistic. Others have some goals in mind, which they want to accomplish at all costs.

noble intentions
boomerang any moment
capsizes their boat
robs their identity off
tossed away by tide of life

Thanks to Colleen’s weekly TankaTuesday challenge, ( specific form) which has inspired me to create a tanka prose. Tanka is typically written in the 5-7-5-7-7: a five-line syllabic structure. Tanka prose always contains a title. One basic requirement: one paragraph, and one tanka.

Thank you.
