Autumn Ambles In

Waiting to dislodge the domain of summer, she dawdles on the sidewalk, watching the shenanigans of Mother Nature.  Supported by blazing sun, the dog days of summer linger but they match my yearning of breezy afternoons, of chaste colors lending exquisite grandeur to the new season.

Grief that Keeps Growing

My Sentinel

Old and slightly tilted,
this pine stands by my window
Nodding every morning
As if understanding and absorbing
My grief.

It moves its arms wider with the wind
Embracing the gusts
As if sending a mute message
Of acceptance; to subdue
My grief.

At twilight, it filters the best hues
And splashes them on the sky
to uplift my melancholy mood.
My constant companion that mitigates
My grief.

It beseeches the moon to pause
and shine brighter to lend a little light
to the sepulchral heart. 
My sentinel sings to detach me from
My grief.

Every night, It caresses 
the owl’s deep hooting sound
To convert it into a lullaby
before it touches my ears, to soothe
My grief.

Am I alive?

A bizarre question haunts me.
Seized by illusory figures
I am dragged away by deceptive dusk.

Eternal night suffocates me
Is this my destination?
The horrors of being alone –

Sans smiles, sans fragrance of my soul mate.

Sweltering Heat

Blazing sun,
unrelenting heat 
festivals
of summer
don’t allure me any more
sunscreens are irksome.

we all wait
for the winds to change
sit indoors 
and enjoy  
soft peaches and nectarines
the only delight!

***

summer naps
lonely afternoons
my muse nudges 
to write more
poems about moonlit nights
supreme self-comfort!

A Shadorma consists of a six-line stanza (or sestet). Each stanza is written as 3-5-3-3-7-5 for a total of 26 syllables with no set rhyme scheme. When writing a Shadorma, concentrate on a specific subject. Shadorma needs a title.

#Summer 24 Seasons… Challenge #Etheree

Summer Break

Cool 
breezy
summer break, 
sojourns we loved
to the foothills of
splendid Himalayas
that breathe a leisurely mood.
just sit and gaze at the snowcaps
of majestic mountains, far away
from the din of cities and scalding heat.

Memorable moments of renewal 
of love inadvertently buried
in the race of reaching the crest.
time to forget all the grudges
soak in blissful nature,
feel the summer vibes, 
hear the whisper
of pine trees
blend with 
clouds.

Inspired from the prompt: “There’s something about the summer that makes me moody…”

An Etheree is a type of poem which consists of 10 lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 syllables. Etheree can also be reversed and written 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. So it is called a double Etheree.

Dry grass, witchy wind
no rainy season in sight
wildfires danger scares
firefighters soldier on,
despite untold health hazards.

As the monsoon lands
grandeur of green leaf shade swells,
fun flutters in ponds
paper boats beguile children
silvery sky seems sublime.

First firefly allures,
emits a magical light 
and spreads friendly vibes
sparkling fellows join the joy
evenings become delightful.
