Love And Christmas Cheer

Christmas Cheer for all

If you are warm and loved this winter
If you can watch the gray sky
From your French windows
Or see the snow falling softly

If you can shut that cold out
Yet watch and enjoy it
With that fireplace glowing
And spreading radiant joy

If you have a loved one to hug you
With music of your choice
Yours is the day and this world
Full of Christmas cheer!

Snow Within Us? #Thaw

Snow within us

It may have snowed last night
But I would walk out to meet you
The pebbly path may be slippery
But I can find the footholds to reach you

My snow boots may be old
But they would carry me along
It may be warm here
But I can carry it in my sedulous song

Your heart may be cold
But I would ignite it with the fire
That burns bright within us
The flames that you always admire

The sun may be hidden
But it would shine brighter to thaw
The coldness in and out
Our love can never withdraw

Never at the threat of intruders
Who try to alienate ardent lovers
Who try to accentuate acrimony
In the name of cultural covers.

Signs – #Writephoto

Signs

That moment…
When signs transform into reality
When acceptance seems sole support
When togetherness comes with a caveat.

That moment…
When we miss the signs of love
Neglect, indifference, brutality
Combined with weird wangle,

Simmering opinions, deep divide
Miles away yet together
Your own life being precious
So it seems.

Trophies of a hunter,
Now we adorn the wall
Proudly we display the love
The accomplishment and triumph!

I Am Not Homeless

Old woman and respect

She haunts me all the time
I close my eyes
And her battered image
Looms large before me…

Unkempt hair, soiled clothes
An eerie, emaciated figure
Always at the bottom of stairs
Sweeping the floor with her stole.

Always cleaning…
Cleaning the dust from the footwear
Kept outside the Sikh temple,
I visit sometimes.

Never does she enter
To pay obeisance
Never does she miss that, though
Never pays attention

As she rubs her forehead
At the bottom of the stairs
Again and again…
A thousand times, it seems.

I look at her each time
A thought reverberates…
Who is this lady…
Why is she so desperate?

I sit at the bottom of stairs
To attract her attention
She looks at me
With empty expression!

I mustered all the courage
To ask: are you homeless?
She muttered, under her breath
I have two sons!

Inspired from a real life incident, I wrote this poem to calm the turbulent emotions within me.

My culture nurtures and upholds strong family values. Anyone who doesn’t respect and care for parents is looked down upon. The responsibility is often handled by the sons but daughters too have taken up this task since they are becoming economically independent and traditionalism is giving way to modernisation.

Alone #writephoto

se-ilkley-2015-saturday-142

Abandoned, I stand alone
Deprived, deluded…
Deranged [they say]
Due to my own indulgence.

Muted by the charges
Of undue affection,
Of care?
Of neglect,
Of discrimination?

My heart always bleeds
For all the affection
I showered
For all the favoritism
That I poured.

A deep, unspeakable regret
Gnaws at my heart
Why was my love
So selfless, so unbiased?

Entrenched in time
I stand here
Watching the new face
Of love, of friendship and trust!
