#Seasonal #Poetry

irksome muggy heat
bristles for sudden showers
oppressive August

***

dahlias toss their heads
scented breeze brings a message
we’re ready to go

***

carpenter bees buzz
some survive on sunflowers
fireflies mate and die

summer dresses match
colorful beach umbrellas
waves welcome surfers

summer sounds snug here
ocean fog flaunts amity
eternal allure

The Thunderbird – A legend

This week’s poetry challenge is extremely interesting. Though it is a photo prompt but I must confess that I didn’t know anything about this picture. Thanks to Colleen for the inspiration to learn more while writing poetry.

The challenge is to write a syllabic poem using the photo for inspiration. “Delve deeper into the mythology behind the image,” says Colleen.

I chose to write a string of haiku.

a cultural pride
engraved on my mystic wings
an ancient grandeur

***

stories of clans ooze
out of my cedar carvings
blessed by natives

***

my wings hold power
producing thunderous sound
remnants of chagrin

***

I sound like thunder
when my powerful wings flap
lightning eyes shoot ire

***

fearsome to behold
I ward off evil spirits
but I seek heavens

Bliss of #Solitude

To walk
with open arms and gather the gold.

To recline
on the green grass and dream.

To fly
on the silvery clouds to touch the horizon.

To soak
in the glory of raw rain drops.

To sing
with the wondrous wind that frees my spirit.

To bounce
with the delicate daffodils.

To bathe
in the moonlight of love.

To merge
in the ecstasy of twinkling stars.

To sleep
stress free and dream like a dilettante.

That is the bliss of solitude.

Colleen’s Ekphrastic #PhotoPrompt

childhood charms beckon
treasures that still hold dreams
dare I discard them?

***

remember the stars?
inspiration to ride on
colors of our choice

***

all were so precious
I chose the golden necklace
that speaks of our love

***

you keep all the stars
I cherish the bonding gold
pervasive pleasure

***

the beads transport me
to the golden eon we shared
of sheer delight

Clouds #NaPoWriMo

Clouds calmly combine
To celebrate love for my poetry
Echoes resound

***

Hope sleeps on clouds
Drifts with their rolling rings
Conjuring its own path

***

Light shines through clouds
Inspires us to trust new horizons
Cynicism recedes

***

We fly on the waves of whim
When our dreams get wings
Clouds crumble to comply
