#TankaTuesday #SyllabicPoetry

Morning chill clutches me
despite the sun’s golden glow
purple hues don’t melt.
seasons change, young leaves flutter
I still wait at the window

***

bleeding bit by bit
a cracked heart treasures moments
of joyous summer
that would never come again
smoky clouds echo my thoughts.

***

fragrant breeze billows
fallen petals prophesize
smothering summer.
a thousand poems won’t soothe
incisive ache of my heart.

#SyllabicPoetry Challenge #Renga

Beauty of buds

This week, the writing challenge is to experiment with Renga form.

Renga or Renku features alternating stanzas, usually of 5-7-5 and 7-7 syllables.

The first part of the renga is a (5-7-5) haiku (hokku) written by your guest. The second part of the renga is the host’s response (wakiku): (7-7). A cooperative poem, written by 2 or more poets.

For this challenge, the poet can write both parts of the renku or work with another poet.

Colleen’s haiku:

An empty attic
the sound of April showers
thunderous rumblings

My reply:

windy weather scares fledglings
new shoots shiver sans sunshine

My haiku:

April full moon smiles
silver scatters on the hill
magical aura!

The kigo words: April showers, April full moon

Yearnings…

First daffodil of the season.

Ready for imbolc
a sole daffodil stands tall
braving the winter
the message reaches my heart
I wallow in self-pity
berated by the sunrise.

***

yellow buds shimmer,
hope glints at the horizon
yet shrieks are alive
the depth of winter deepens,
the throttle of night tightens
constricting my blood vessels.

***

far away from you,
winter sparrow is yearning
to fly on impulse –
an unknown destination,
the so-called heaven awaits
in the realms of fantasy.

The challenge this week is to compose a series of Bussokusekika, (syllable count: 5-7-5-7-7-7.) which is an ancient form of waka (tanka). Also use one kigo phrase in each of your three poems. Kigo phrases for the northern hemisphere are:

  1. Imbolc or groundhog day (your choice) – 2 or 3 syllables
  2. Depth of winter – 4 syllables
  3. Winter sparrow – 4 syllables

Thanks to Colleen for the inspiration and instructions to write syllable poetry.

The Wait

Adrift,
alone, I pine,
everyday I look out,
separated by a window
waiting.

just for
one glance, one chance
to prove my commitment,
to pass the test of my patience,
my love.

will she
turn her face once?
will I hold on for life ?
even the flowers at the ledge
wither.

true love
blossoms swiftly
can it change with seasons?
skepticism has no solution
I’m stuck.

this room
is my prison
this pact – my albatross
now I regret my decision
gravely.

Thanks to Colleen and Rebecca Budd ~ ChasingArt.com, for the inspiration to write syllabic poetry. I’ve written a Crown Cinquain.

Crown Cinquain is a sequence of five cinquain stanzas functioning to construct one larger poem. This poem has five stanzas, each with syllable count of 2/4/6/8/2.

I would like to express my profound gratitude to Denise, Diana, Mae Clair, Sandra Cox, Vera Day, Robbie Cheadle and Patricia for wonderful reviews of my latest poetry book, Fusion, which was released this month.

#Seasonal #Poetry

irksome muggy heat
bristles for sudden showers
oppressive August

***

dahlias toss their heads
scented breeze brings a message
we’re ready to go

***

carpenter bees buzz
some survive on sunflowers
fireflies mate and die

***

summer dresses match
colorful beach umbrellas
waves welcome surfers

***

summer sounds snug here
ocean fog flaunts amity
eternal allure
