When You Were Here…

Together we sat here as young lovers
I remember how my heart fluttered for you.

Together we sat here, eager to know each other
I remember the first blush on your coy face.

Together we sat here, holding hands
I adored the tinkle of your vernal voice.

Together we sat here, sharing jokes
Your laughter blended with the songs of nature.

Together we sat here, clasping time in our hands
The thrill of your promises warmed my heart.

Together we sat here, entangled in the vows of love
Even the birds sang songs of our passion.

Together we sat here, immersed in our dreams
I remember how you inspired me to go ahead.

Together we sat here, thinking we were made for each other
You smiled and concurred you never had any doubts.

I remember the surreal symphony of our thoughts
Your love was like wind chimes that completed us.

And now I sit alone, adrift, trying to hear those echoes
I know you live here, I know you’re waiting.

  1. A very touching poem Balroop. The past and present intertwined and love remains unfulfilled. Beautiful. Thanks for joining in

  2. What a heartfelt poem of deep emotions and loving memories, Balroop! He is with you all the time, you can feel him even when you can’t see him. You’re still here for a purpose. You’ll join him when the time comes.

  3. Such a beautifully nostalgic piece—it stirred memories of moments that live forever in the heart. As a fellow writer, mother, and teacher, I truly admire how gracefully you capture emotion through verse. Thank you for this lovely read.
