watch each petal sprout,
widen, thrive and radiate – 
breathing a message of life

Sunflower sulks now, 
has alienated herself,

My Picture Window #Etheree

This week, the challenge is “to share the view outside your window by writing a syllabic poem.” Here is the view from my window though the picture doesn’t show the howling wind and the continuous rain… spring still seems far away!

View from my bedroom window

Pine 
tree twigs
swing harder 
wrathful wind howls,
inert spring stumbles
nonplussed, she looks at the 
silvery sky that shields sun.
My picture window remains closed
to keep the wayward winter chill and
the unpleasant sounds of the wild wind out.

So ferocious that it knocks down blossoms
as if spring charm is at its mercy!
It’s fun to watch freaky weather 
only from my French window
and wait for fragrant queen
to arrive with breeze
loved by lillies 
and roses
to spread
joy.

Thanks to Colleen for the inspiration to write syllabic poetry. My admiration for this form has grown with each attempt.

I have written a double Etheree which consists of 10 lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 syllables. Etheree can also be reversed and written 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

My New Friend…

New poem for new year?

“Forget it,” says my snooty muse – irate and imperious. “Go ahead with your fiction and the new friend you’ve found.”

“Why are you sulking?”

“NO! I feel stifled when you write descriptive paragraphs for your new friend.”

“Why can’t a poet write a novel?” I ask 

“You are no good at that! I know you are a person of few words. For years I’ve been your mentor and now you’ve abandoned me.”

“But this is a temporary phase. This story has been waiting to burst out. Let me finish it.”

“Really? I challenge you to finish it this year. I am sure you are going to get wedged in those dark corridors. Only I know how to pull you out.”

“Now that is poor encouragement, goldy.”

“I am familiar with your dismal progress. Each time I’ve to step in to show you the light that glows at the horizon.”

“I know I am incomplete without you. I promise to be with you each morning.”

“This is no truce. I’ll choose my own time. Right now I am in an adventurous mood.”

“You’ve come home after a month. Share your stories with me.” I try to ground her.

“Ha!”she rebuffs me and bounds out. “Don’t try to humor me. I know you too well.”

My new friend embraces me and we totter forward. Hope has been my dearest buddy.

The Gray Scarf

My 
gray scarf
breathes yearning,
holds warmth of love.
Purchased ages ago,
you promised it’s fragrance 
would never fade from our lives.
Then how did winter winds creep in
to divest us of our solemn vows?
Yet it sings familiar strains of summer,
shimmering with renewed rhythm of hope
that just lies at the bottom of sea
never reaching your empty heart.
Memories of gray scarf crawl,
weary shadows follow
on this Thanksgiving
till paths of love
converge in 
the next
world.

Inspired from haiku, this is a fun form, as it gives freedom from syllables. Yahoo!

Next week, I am traveling and would be away for almost three weeks. Despite the boosters, we have to keep the masks on for a lo….ng international flight!
