Just Saying…

I wonder why people like long tresses
Only when others wear them
I wonder when would I gather the grit
To repeat my adolescent goof

Ah! Can I forget the day I got the inspiration
From “Maggie cuts her hair”
And told my younger sister to help me
Satiate my desire for short hair!

Thunder reverberated around me.
My sister shrugged off her role
And blamed the scissors
That wouldn’t move straight!

I was reminded of my cultural compulsion
To wear my hair unsheared.
The rebel in me scoffed it off
Promising me to do as I wished.

I waited and waited
Time did come to take my own decisions
But the longer they grew
The more I liked them.

Each time I think of cutting them short
Many words echo around me:
‘They are beautiful’… ‘They look awesome’…
‘Never shorten them’… ‘I love them’

You should see them on my pillow
How they struggle to survive each night
As I turn my head around
To find a comfortable position.

Oh! don’t even ask how many vacuum cleaners
They have asphyxiated!
The day my sister visits
I have to sweep the kitchen floor twice!

Colleen’s Ekphrastic Photoprompt

her special attire,
her scarlet gown makes her grab
the precious crystal
dim memories glide like ghosts
reflections recant beliefs

***

open book beckons
to cast a long awaited spell
to wriggle out clean,
discard the scarlet status
inheritance – a burden

***

Eager enchantress
ready to quit her domain
to craft an alien
who would emulate her style
could her love ever decline?

I had planned book reviews for this week but Colleen’s magnificent image prompt is too good to resist. Thank you for the inspiration.

The #TBR Pile #Writing Challenge

Pixaby image

She grabs each book with panache
But lets it languish in some corner
Promises would be kept, she knows
When’d that day dawn, she doesn’t decipher.

Decorated with turmeric
Scented by cinnamon
Smeared with her favorite sauce
Some sit at her kitchen ledge, waiting to be read.

They enhance the ambiance of her home
Books are her first love
A unique drape that keeps her
Cloaked in her treasured trove.

Butterflies of her basement,
They charm, but
Keep her away from real beauties
That Mother Nature offers.

Her new beloved ‘Kindle’ is bursting
But the masked beauties
Know their boundaries
No eyes follow and no fingers beckon!

Holiday Blessings #Etheree

True
moments
of joyous
celebrations
are the ones that bring
beautiful melodies
of sweet songs, brimming with love
wrapped with emotional delight;
magnificent gifts seem lusterless
in the gathering of a family.

Holiday blessings bring us together
Christmas tree shines brighter with laughter
that resounds around the fireplace
to warm it with festive cheer
song of life sounds dearer,
lilting with a new
dawn to dispel
darkness and
welcome
light.

This week’s double Etheree is inspired from Colleen Chesebro’s Weekly Poetry Challenge #poet’s choice (with a twist.) Thank you for the inspiration to try new forms, Colleen.

Vintage Vibes

Drenched in the delight of love that grows with time, taking an inspiration from lingering shadows of the gnarled branches, they walk despite the slippery road of life. They find solace in togetherness and new promises.

snowy path threatens,
scares, yet we walk forward
enticed by the glow
that dances with promises,
old stories infuse new life

Thanks to Colleen Chesebro for Weekly Poetry Challenge. This week’s form is tanka prose. There are two basic forms in classic tanka prose: Preface (explanation) and the Poem Tale (episodic narration.)
