A favorite Spice

cardamom

sweet
and small,
younger than
black cardamom
I am precious for
the fragrance I exude.
I excel when crushed with love, 
enhance the taste of beverages
and add flavor to some sweet dishes
double-edged – alluring smell, sublime taste. 

A favorite of grandma for her tea,
this dainty lady entered my life
one fine day to add aroma
to biryani and curries.
keep her in air-tight jar 
or she may lose her  
distinctive charm,
revered for
better
health.

Astute Artist #Ekphrastic #Poetry

Astute Artist

She knew her charm, she could entice within moments, she had slayed many with her looks yet this artist chose to paint the Lady of Conceited Charisma. Confident of softening her expressions, he devoted one hour everyday to sketch her portrait and left in a hurry, pretending loss of inspiration. The chagrin of the lady mounted with each passing day but the humility with which he bowed his head and promised to complete the commissioned work within a month touched her heart.

He chose lavender
that could soften the semblance 
she liked fiery red
he painted calm nuances
she yearned for a love embrace.

Blissful #Love Double #Etheree

Blissful Love

When
roses
coruscate,
the passion of
petals emit a
resplendent spark that shows
how ecstatic are whispers
of green love that blooms unawares,
a fairy tale that sounds authentic,
a journey to luminous lands of choice.

The fragrance fleets just like the petals drop
but austere love embraces each moment
it glistens and thrives in the hearts
complemented by new dreams
percolates into souls
just like vintage wine
swirls on our tongue
a sublime
touch of
bliss.

Beyond Time

On the curving edge of time
Sneak moments, shimmering with light,
Gliding with ease, still alive,
Eloquent beyond words and I watch…

They keep coming back
To warm our hearts, to harmonize,
To illumine the truths we forget –
Waves of life keep tossing.

We pursue a walking mirror
That echoes eclectic charms
Birthday delights, innocent chatter
Games that governed our hours.

Sometimes I pretend to fall
Into the hourglass of time
Clocks stand still but I walk
To inhale the odor of an old oasis.

This week Colleen ‘s #TankaTuesday challenge explores Ekphrastic poetry, inspired by the work of art. We have the freedom to write free verse but then write one syllabic poem too.

The Lady of the Snows

Each morning 
when eastern rim glows pink, 
the lady of snow spreads her mittened hands, 
cedes her power and walks across the river, flowing leisurely.

She tarries just a second
to shake off the snowflakes from her attire,
to gather the beams of morning sun,
to savor the silence of winter morn, 
to borrow beauty from mother nature.

Alone she walks with élan
across the bridge, beyond the era
Lilting with life.  
Taciturn by nature, 
with tranquil transition in her eyes, 
she breathes a message of giving, 
giving all that you gather.
