What Remains…
Clouds confer in the calm mirror
Of emerald lake
Is this house habitable?
They had seen happier times,
Watched winsome faces
Heard the squeals of delight.
When children converged by the lake
Their games charmed Mother Nature
Spellbound, she let the spring linger just for them.
Time robbed those carefree days
How fast did they grow!
From Kindergarten to High School.
The house grew quieter each day
As the youngsters flew away
In pursuit of their dreams.
Now autumn rests here
With her muted colors and limp leaves
Crimson couldn’t capture the fleeting joy.
Carved into the mirror of the lake
Are memories that march silently
Seen only by the clouds.

Such a beautiful and truthful poem. I remember when my daughter left, how thankful I was my son remained. And then he too left. Sigh.
Life is like that! We are mute spectators to the changes!
Gorgeous poem, Balroop, both nostalgic and wistful. It made me miss the carefree days of youth when the world seemed a little more innocent. Hugs.
Yes! How much change we have experienced, as if an era passed! Thank you for sharing your kind words dear friend. 🤗

It makes us proud when our children grow up and learn to take their own decisions but it also makes us sad, no doubt. Wishing him a fun filled life. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Yvette.

So exquisitely expressed, Balroop.

This is gorgeous, Balroop, and relatable since my kids have ‘flown away in pursuit of their dreams.’ How life goes by so quickly remains mystifying. xo
