#Poetry Challenge #Synonyms Only

like an unmoored boat, I drift
to soothe my fragmented nerves
your vows echo around me
but rogue waves threaten

***

I hold my head high to see
a shadow that follows me
a wonderful illusion
that keeps me alive

***

an eternal bond that soothes
a timeless pledge that persists
despite earthly boundaries
can love be confined?

This week, Lisa is the host for Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge. The challenge is ‘Synonyms Only.’ That means we will be using synonyms for the given prompt words: promise and comfort.

I’ve highlighted the synonyms I used. I chose to write a string of dodoitsu.

A dodoitsu is a Japanese form of poetry that is sometimes performed as a folk song. It has 26 syllables: 7 in the first, second and third lines, and 5 in the last line. (7/7/7/5). No rhyming. No title.

Thank you dear readers.

  1. I really like how you use an unmoored boat drifting as bringing soothing (until the waves of course!), because so often drifting is seen as a negative. Drifting can be refreshing, letting our minds rest.

  2. I love the deep thoughts and emotions in this poem, Balroop! I love especially the last stanza. Love is eternal, it knows no boundaries. It’s not confined by time and space, heaven and earth!

  3. Love can never be confined . . . and your love emanates from this beautiful poem. ❤️
