Sea Breeze

when
heat rouses
sea fairies,
they weave a web
of magic and come  
riding on the strings of
misty breeze that tranquilizes.
smoldering heat takes a back seat
summer transforms within a moment
that’s the perk of residing near the sea.

the cocoon of midsummer darkness cracks
wind whistles around the closed windows
bird songs can be heard each morning
even willows sway softly.
we walk by leisurely
landscapers enjoy 
cutting the grass
fragrance charms
the sea
nymphs.

Thanks to Colleen for the inspiration to write syllabic poetry. I chose to write a double Etheree.

An Etheree is a type of poem which consists of 10 lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 syllables. Etheree can also be reversed and written 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. So it is called a double Etheree.

    Anyone who has ever sat under misters in the hot desert heat knows the power of the mist. The word “tranquilizes” is brilliant. 🙂 xxx

    1. Thank you Marsha. The magic of sea breeze works just after two days of extreme heat but this time it extended for a week! Heat just vanishes when sea breeze and fog starts rising in the evening, cooling the nights.

  2. What a lovely double Etheree. Balroop! The sea fairies are welcome here. I wish to live close to the sea to have my summer transformed. It was half an hour’s drive when I lived in California, and now it’s almost a two-hour drive.

    1. Thank you Miriam. Oregon’s summer is quite good. We visited a few years ago in the month of July and were greeted by sleet in the National Park.
