Summer brings mixed zing,
clear skies and mundane sunsets
piercing sun rays sting.
how tropical heat oppresses
just ask the paddy planters
***
days become pythons
pernicious heat wave spirals
sweltering hours crawl
loneliness enshrouds snugly
unheard screams reverberate.

Your verses are interesting, Balroop. Not quite in line with the glamorous idea of summer.
Robbie, summer has many faces, I know this one as I have experienced it. Thanks for coming over to read.
Yes, you are right, Balroop. I loved your poems.
Your poem expresses the not-so-pleasant aspect of summer and those who toil in the relentless sun.
Yes, poor workers know what is sweltering heat! Thanks for stopping by to share your thoughts, Jan.
I liked this, Balroop.
Thank you.
A different view of summer, Balroop, compared to flowers and birdsong. Too much heat is indeed dangerous, and some people don’t have a choice about it. Well done, my friend.
Yes, each year many people die due to heat stroke, as they have to earn their livelihood despite extreme heat that continues for many days. Paddy is planted in standing water, with the sun hammer on the head of the workers. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Diana.
Powerful, Balroop. Summer does have a dark side.
Sure, I have experienced that, Denise.
Balroop, I love how you worked in the rice paddy, kigo words! I love Asian rice, so this made me smile. In the second poem, your imagery is amazing:
“days become pythons
pernicious heat wave spirals
sweltering hours crawl…”
Stunning work! 💗
Thank you for your kind words Colleen. I have seen how paddy is planted in the unbearable heat of Northern India and that’s where this prompt took me.
Hi Balroop, you wonderfully expressed the aspect of summer that I don’t like anymore. We’re just getting over a heat wave, thankfully, but with each round, I’m ready to move to Alaska. 🙂
Well done! 💞
Lauren, you need to see how bad are summer months in Northern India, with temperatures soaring to 48 degrees Celsius and staying there for days and the humidity of July is terrible! California heat is still bearable. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Your passionate poetry pierces the soul
Thank you Annette.
Poignant and moving, Balroop. Summer isn’t so ‘fun’ for the workers in the fields.
Exactly! Thanks for sharing your thoughts Lisa.
Balroop, I can feel the oppression and draining aspects in your poem. Tough labor to have to do within it.
Thank you Lisa for understanding the undertones of these poems. I appreciate your insights.
❤
Powerful, Balroop! “sweltering hours crawl” – incredible imagery!
Thank you so much Gwen.
Profound poetry. Reminds me strongly that not all things that thrive in beauty and light, are beautiful.🙏🏾🖤
So true! Thank you for sharing your thoughts Jude.
I can feel the mugginess from your poems.🥵
I am glad to hear my words hold that power! Thank you Melissa.
