Winter Woes

chilly winds incise
frozen like an icicle
I sit, sedated.
dark clouds hover like eagles
cold snowstorms pierce through my heart

each morning ambles
wearing wintery blanket
yearning for some light
bare branches share the secrets
I try to bury within

***

a colorless life
A garland of icicles —
juxtaposition
A beauty that hits deeper
desolation sores

Thanks to Colleen for the inspiration to write syllabic poetry.

My kigo words this week: icicles, bare branches, cold snowstorms.

  1. This is a beautiful sequence, Balroop. I feel your words, and the last line: “desolation sores” is very poignant. It makes me think of the line: “The winter of my discontent…” ❤️

  2. Winter can be achingly beautiful but also gray and drab which can inhibit the soul. But spring blooms afterward, and I pray you will feel that same warm awakening in you heart given time, Balroop.

Your poetry is so raw, yet woven with ribbons of beauty at the same time. You paint emotions and a visual tapestry with your words.

  3. Beautiful soulful pieces of poetry Balroop.. May the Ice soon thaw and melt that band of grief so sorrowfully felt dear friend.. My heart feels your words my friend… Sending Love xx ❤

  4. Beautiful words that capture the depth of emotion in the stark landscape, Balroop. Hugs xo

  5. As a reader, I want to wrap my hands around your heart like woolen protection to keep it beating through the cold winter of grief. Your words are beautiful because your relationship was beautiful and your loss is jagged like an ice sword.

      1. None of us can know the depth of someone else’s emotions, but I lost my first husband when he was almost 48. He had been sick a long time, so life had been hard for most of our 20 years together. But marriage entwines lives like nothing else. You are so young, and my heart goes out to you.

  6. Balroop, you’ve woven the contrasting elements, such as icy stillness and yearning for light, so very skillfully… This is such a poignant reflection on the complexity of emotions during the season ❤

  7. Wonderful poem which encapsulates the feelings of winter so well. ‘a colorless life’ I think winter feels like that quite a bit, especially when it’s really cold and there is a lack of motivation. Perfect photo to go with your words too. I hope Spring is just around the corner for you, and may you feel warm sunshine more often. Hope you are doing well, Balroop 😊❤
