misty morning beckons me
through the wide window
autumn sky waits for first glow
dewy dawn delights.
I step out to feel the air
a sudden chill pulls me back
cloak of the sun gets warmer
wind casts her magic.
Clouds drift to reveal the sun
first rays melt my muse
she confers with the colors
and creates this verse.

Thanks to Colleen for the inspiration to write syllabic poetry.
The kigo word I chose – Autumn Sky
The kouta is a Japanese verse form, usually consisting of four lines but sometimes five, that tends to celebrate the average person’s everyday life in song. The most common variants seem to be 7/5/7/5 and 7/7/7/5, though these are only two possible variations.
Many thanks to all the readers who’ve read my latest release and shared their fabulous reviews of my poetry book – Fusion – my latest release. This week, Colleen has shared her review of Fusion. Thank you!

I love this, Balroop! It’s positively pristine, each verse beautifully conjuring emotions and images in my head. Bravo!
Thank you Mae, I am delighted to hear your kind words of encouragement. 🤗
Balroop, this is lovely. Really makes me think of an autumn I will probably will never again, living here in Arizona.
Thank you Luanne for sharing your thoughts, you can always travel to see the colors of fall.🍂
I actually have done that a few times, but once traveled to Tennessee/North Carolina and they were very late and we missed them :(. I wanted to see them in the mountains.
Mountains look beautiful in all their moods! We’ve visited Asheville in North Carolina in the fall and it is much much beautiful than this side.
Ashville area is lovely! Arizona has a different kind of beauty, but when it’s so hot for months on end it wears on me. And OTOH every few years we have a cold winter which is greatly magnified by the dryness. So 32 degrees here feels like 15 back east. But most winters are nice :).
Your muse “confers with the colors.” That’s wonderful, Balroop!
Thank you Vera. Only when I immerse myself in the colors of nature, can I write about them and it’s so spontaneous! 😊
I love an autumn morning, and I felt like I stepped out into with you. Xo
Love that thought Denise. We are blessed to be living in the lap of nature…I just have to gaze out of my window to savor the beauty.
Balroop, your kouta poetry is lovely. I love the alliteration of “dewy dawn delights.” Those sounds are so important in our syllabic forms. You captured the beauty of the deepening autumn.
I’ve tried this form for the first time! I am delighted that you’ve approved it. Thank you so much Colleen.
You did a wonderful job. I knew everyone would love the kouta. You can write it as you’d like as long as you use combinations of 5-7!
Yes, it’s almost similar to tanka.
The extra line gives you more room. 🧡
beautiful image and equally lovely words to go with, Balroop G🤍🙏
You brought me right into your experience, and I right at home!
Thanks for sharing your lovely thoughts Annette, I am glad I could create that aura. 🤗
Beautiful poem and photo from your window, Balroop. I could feel the morning chill and the warmth of the home pulled you back in. I wear a hooded warm jacket now when I go out.
Chilly mornings are fun if you are all bundled up! 😀 Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts Miriam.
Aww. I love this, Balroop, especially the last stanza and the entrance of the muse. How wonderful was that. Stay warm in that wind. ❤
I follow the words of a famous poet who said that when you mention your presence while describing nature, you write wholesome poetry. 😊 Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts Diana. Wind is calm today.
That’s lovely. And it worked!
I liked the line with the muse, too. I’m glad the sun melted her. It was an interesting word picture. I feel the chill in the air and am glad for the rays of sunshine. 🙂
Autumn chill is quite pleasant – a welcome change. Thank you for stopping by Marsha, much appreciated.
I love the autumn chill. It’s my favorite time of year, Balroop! 🙂
Mine too! Not because of chill but the colors of the foliage are so good! 😊
Yes, the foliage is amazing. I’m ready for the chill to stop by about December. 🙂
Your poetry always makes me feel better. Autumn here is chillier even than where you are. But the beauty is inescapable. Thank you for such a gorgeous poem.
Thank you Pam, I agree. Autumn at your side is almost like cozy winter. 🤗
I wouldn’t mind six months of Autumn though, and skip the winter, please. 🙂
We have bearable winter here, in California, with bright sunshines. 😊
I love how your brought the reader into the scene, Balroop! Absolutely gorgeous piece! ❤️
Thank you so much for your encouraging words Eugi. 🤗
