her special attire,
her scarlet gown makes her grab
the precious crystal
dim memories glide like ghosts
reflections recant beliefs
***
open book beckons
to cast a long awaited spell
to wriggle out clean,
discard the scarlet status
inheritance – a burden
***
Eager enchantress
ready to quit her domain
to craft an alien
who would emulate her style
could her love ever decline?

I had planned book reviews for this week but Colleen’s magnificent image prompt is too good to resist. Thank you for the inspiration.

Balroop a magnificent challenge taken and I loved the tanka it was apt with the picture. Too good.
Thank you Kamal for sharing your lovely thoughts, always appreciated.
You are always welcome dear Balroop ❤️😊❤️
A brilliant response to Colleen’s prompt, Balroop!
Thank you Jan, I like the prompt, it’s different and unique.
Wow, you really captured this one!! I love the third haiku. Well done, Balroop. This line especially captured me: “dim memories glide like ghosts” ❤
Thank you Lisa, I am delighted to hear that. 🤗
I’m happy you didn’t resist, Balroop. This is wonderful!
Thank you Jill, some images are so evocative!
Well done, Balroop! Loved it 🙂
Thank you Denise.
Wow it is just incredible to me how you crafted 3 different perspectives from the picture prompt so beautifully. I admire your talent.
Thank you Prag for a beautiful compliment, the image is inspiring enough to write more. I am looking forward to write another poem for my next book.
All my pleasure truly. Keep inspiring _()_
🥰🤗
The image is so full of stories, Balroop. I can tell you were inspired. Beautiful poetry. 🙂
Thank you Diana. Syllables don’t let me elaborate, I enjoy free verse to let my muse go further. 😊
Your poetry is beautiful, my friend. I’m working on one for this prompt too. It’s so evocative.
I know you would come up with something unique.😊
I’m going to try to do all Colleen’s Ekphrastic challenges this year. 🙂
That matches my thoughts 😀
🙂
So amazing
Thank you.
Check out my blog dear friend…my crafts might interest you.
Beautiful poem, Balroop! I love how you focus on three different parts of the painting. Well done! 🙂
Thank you for noticing all the three dimensions of my thoughts Yvette.
Beautiful poem, Balroop! I could see the inspiration didn’t let you go until you wrote this piece. Well done! 🙂
Your words fit that image perfectly, Balroop.
Thank you Jacqui 😊
I always admire a good prompt with poetry form. I just don’t prefer the chosen format stuff, myself. Well done though! 🙏❤️
Thank you Bela. Syllable restriction is a pain for me for I like to challenge myself. 😊💕
🤗
Brilliant lines!
Thank you so much!
Wonderful, Balroop!
Thank you Bette 🤗
I see something new every time I look at this painting. Beautiful, Balroop!
Thank you Jacquie. Yes, this is an amazing painting!
Wonderful response to the the prompt, Balroop. Love these verses 💕🙂
Thank you Harmony 🤗
Balroop, your tanka sequence is excellent. Each tanka focuses on another layer of meaning found within the painting. I like this. You could do a book of Ekphrasic poetry inspired by paintings. As long as they are in the public domain, you could feature the images. ❤
Thank you so much Colleen, I am glad you think I could write so much of Ekphrasic poetry! Syllabic poetry remains a challenge to me and I struggle with the words each time I try. Love your feedback. 🥰🤗
It’s all good. I think syllabic poetry uses a different part of our brain than we use when we write prose. It’s like doing fractions in math. We have to get it down to the lowest common denominator (meaning our choice of words). I like poetry books sprinkled with different kinds of poetry. You would be fabulous at that. ❤
Many thanks for the encouraging words Colleen but my Maths has been terrible!! 😀😀
I especially liked the image of dim memories gliding like ghosts.
I enjoyed all three responses to the painting.
Thank you D. This painting has so many layers to inspire, I have tried to capture a few. 😊
Your words match perfectly the photo Balroop!
Very nice poetry as always
Thank you Marie.
‘discard the scarlet status’
‘reflections recant beliefs’
Just a couple of the lines I love in this.wonderful writing.
Thanks Jude 😊
