Fascinated by the feather, I touched it
Waves of fear shook me
A strange figure greeted me:
“Welcome to the land of sorcery
Watch from a distance
You are a part of this world.”
I tried to follow my first instinct
“Run,” my mind shrieked
But embedded to the ground
I couldn’t lift my foot
Dry leaves danced around me
With weird whispers.
A mute spectator, a one-eyed stone
I sit and watch the people
Who visit every week
With offerings of fruit and gold
They return every fortnight
Eyes gleaming with hope
Only I know the crater
That collects all the booty.
I can’t hear the laughter and the ridicule
My ears have been sullied
Faith has strange sensations
It refuses to see reason.

This one is eerie! Remind me not to pick up any feathers in the woods, lol
Feathers do seem fascinating but how many germs they carry … do we ever ponder? Good you’re not picking any. 😊
Ew! I never thought of the germ aspect! Lol
The only thought these days! 😊
I agree with Jacquie… this has a very eerie feel…
That is where the combination of those tokens took me.
Faith refuses to see reason – well said Balroop.
Faith often blinds people, even those who claim to be erudite.
Unfortunately yes.
Your poem read like a dream or nightmare. It was beautiful and strange in a good way. Loved it! 😀 xo
Is it? But there are many so called healers who play with the emotions and fears of the vulnerable to earn money.
True. I meant your poem was strange in a good way not those charlatans. But, sometimes faith alone heals.
I agree with that thought Vashti. Thanks for sharing.
Really intriguing poem, Balroop. The one eyed stone is a witness to many people’s unwavering faith. Awesome interpretation of that photo. I would have been stumped with this one 🙂 ❤
Thanks Lisa. Actually the eye of that stone guided me toward faith, which is often blind. 😊
whew, yes. LOVE it.
🤗❤️
Faith and reason…great food for thought, Balroop!
Thanks Bette, you picked the key words. 🤗
Have an awesome day and a bright and beautiful weekend, Balroop! ❤ xo
Wishing the same for you Bette. Our days have been darkened by the smoke around us…so many wildfires are raging near us.
What I love about your poetry Balroop, is that it’s lyrical, tells and story, and always makes me think. So well done!
Thank you Mae, it’s nice to inspire with thoughts.🙏🤗
This is not usually what you write but it is nice to read something new. I sense the feeling of irony in these words.
Thanks arv, you are right… exploring new paths. 😊
Great! Hope you enjoy this “exploration”
Lots of thought-provoking lines in this poem, Balroop. One of my favorites–“Faith has strange sensations
It refuses to see reason.”
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jacqui.
Provocative poem, Balroop. I have a friend who, when she finds a feather near her (not an ordinary event) she believes its a sign from a loved one who has died. This goes so well with your idea that Faith…refuses to see reason.”
We have a lot of wild turkeys around our home and many of their feathers can be seen near the lawns. Do I sound skeptical? Lol
🙂 haha “Whatever feathers your goose,” or something like that (I think I just made that up…)
A clever take on the photo, Balroop, and this poem does offer an otherworldly affect. I also echo what others have said about Faith and your last two lines: wonderful food for thought.
Have a good weekend!
Thanks Lauren, wishing you too a wonderful weekend.
Loved this. I associate finding feathers with a lost loved one sending a message. But, I really don’t like to touch them, lol 🙂 x
A message of love probably? I wonder how this belief started! 😊
That would be interesting to learn 🙂
Ooh a dark and magical poem, Balroop. I was immediately caught up in the story. Great take on the prompt, my friend.
Wow, Balroop. Your imagination is flying in this beautifully written poem. I feel it steeped in mysticism and
secret dramas. The last stanza brings it beautifully together.

Very welcome 🌹
Wonderful write. The thought of something sinister did pop up in my mind too when i had initially seen the pic.
Loved your write. 😀
Thanks 😊
Well written!
Thank you Mark.
Stay away from strangers no matter how charming they may seem! Excellent poem, Balroop!
Well said! Thanks Miriam 😊
You’re welcome, Balroop. 😊
Wonderful poem. “Embedded to the ground”…relatable! I’ve felt that in dreams. 🙂
Thank you Lisa.
🙂
Loved the way your words conjured up the story to ponder further … Magical and Mystical as we often feel rooted to the spot as we need to take in and unto ourselves the energies from our surroundings.. Many thanks Balroop ❤ 🙏
Haha… magic gives us a lot of scope to veer into whatever way we want to go. Here my thoughts were guided purely by the weird image. 🙂
And I was enchanted by the journey your thoughts guided your imagination 🙂
