I feel most like me…
When I am at home
When I can speak my heart out
Without thinking I would be misconstrued
When I am surrounded by the people I love
The friends I can trust
I feel most like me
When I bask in the glory of my days
When I laugh like my grand kids
Who add sparkle to my face
When happiness reflects in my eyes
And my heart exults with pride
I feel most like me
When random memories make me smile
When rain drains away emotional dust
That gathers unawares
When my grand son hugs me tight
And whispers… ‘I love you’
I feel most like me
When my words flow like a stream
When my reflections are understood
And touch somebody’s heart
When I have all the time in the world
To look at the stars
I feel most like me
When I am in my comfort zone
When I feel free to take decisions
That I know would be respected
When gratitude percolates within me
And peace pervades around
I feel most like me
When I listen to my inner voice
When I am unaffected by criticism
And stay calm in my heart
When I refuse to be manipulated
And can listen to divine within.

“The further you get away from yourself, the more challenging it is. Not to be in your comfort zone is great fun.”
I agree mihrank…sometimes it is good to listen to your inner voice that just wants you to relax and be yourself. 🙂
Insightful reminders…expressed beautifully, Balroop! ❤
Thank you Bette…trying to be myself 🙂
Hugs & Happy Week, Balroop! ❤ xxxx
Come to think of it, there’s no dearth of “I feel most like me” moments – only if we open our hearts to them. These DVR moments and memories are always there waiting for us to play them again; and imagine, we can watch them minus the advertisement (read: negativity). “When rain drains away emotional dust, That gathers unawares” – nice. Great, Balroop 🙂
I wonder why we close our hearts to ‘those moments’ Mahesh…Is it lack of time or inclination? Reminds me of W.H.Davies who said: “A poor life this is if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.”
Thank you for your words of appreciation dear friend.
Inclination, perhaps. By not opening our hearts we think we are protecting ourselves? But, quite the opposite is the effect. Most are unwilling to ditch the comfortable gloom. And I love what WH Davies said. Thanks again, dear friend.
Seems to be both in this modern digital life 🙂
Beautiful poem Balroop. It makes me feel as if I am wrapped in a warm and soft blanket and just curled up.
All these favourite places, people, hugs. All the love you are surrounded under with.
Yes, it is a good place to be. Days like these set us up for those that are colder at times.
miriam
I am delighted that my comfort zone conveys that feeling Miriam…curling up with your memories and loving people is a blessing! I felt elated after writing this and I have been reading and re-reading this poem since I wrote it to derive solace from my own words…LOL! Quite strange! 🙂 Now I know the reason! Thank you dear friend for simplifying it.
What an honest poem about being comfortable with one’s self. That’s not an easy task, to feel at ease with ourselves, with who we are and what we’ve got. So agree with your poem when it speaks of speaking out honestly and surrounded by people you trust. Above all being comfortable encompasses little moments like you said, a hug from someone that means so much to you – because there is no substitute for these moments 😊 Wishing you a good week my friend 😊😊
I believe I was born with a special streak that always echoed ‘be yourself’…I was never bothered by bullying or criticism though it was hurting but I could shrug off those feelings and derived strength from it. I could never be snubbed even at the cost of catastrophic consequences, rather I learned to choose people I liked. I know people don’t like such boulder-like persons but I chose to learn life lessons from their apathy towards honesty and truthfulness. You are right Mabel…there is no substitute for blissful moments! Thank you for understanding so well dear friend. Stay blessed! 🙂
Were you describing yourself as a boulder-like person? That is great that you were never bothered by bullying. You are one strong character, Balroop – turning negatives into positives as always 🙂
Thank you Mabel 🙂 Positive way inspires me to keep trotting even if it is uneven and pebbly.
I feel very few people are able to stay their own self. With so much external stimuli people are easily influenced.
That’s why wise people say : ‘Be yourself!’ Good influence ennobles us though.
Absolutely 👍😃
A delightful poem about how situations make you feel. Very relatable, Balroop.
Thank you Robbie…situations become special if we snatch some time to sit back and analyse them. 🙂
I think you captured it, Balroop. That does describe when I feel most like me, though it rarely (really rarely) happens. Sigh.
See comfort zone is also elusive…until we make an effort to savour those moments!
Beautiful poem, Balroop, and my comfort zone is very similar to yours. 🙂 Have a blessed day. ❤🌹🌷
Thanks Lauren. Wishing you too a sunny day. 🙂
Love this. I saw something on Twitter, it went: Nothing great was ever accomplished in a comfort zone.
I think that’s rubbish. Sure, we should try to soldier on through adversity because we all need to deal with that. But if you can’t be in a comfort zone, you’re saying you can never be comfortable. And humans aren’t set up to do their best creative work when they’re living on too much redirected fight-or-flight. Reflection is somewhat the result of having the luxury of extra mental energy.
So, a major “rock on” for the poem, as usual, Balroop! 🙂
The above quote is for those who are too laid back about their aspirations. There is a difference between pursuing one’s ambitions and living in comfort zone as both can exist side by side.
Thank you for thinking out of the box dear Cathleen, I absolutely agree with you! Stay blessed and happy in the zone you prefer. 🙂
~Beautiful words and so true. Home really is where the heart, mind and soul is.
Thank you Adele…inner peace reigns where the heart and the home are in harmony. Have a wonderful week!
Thank you, balroop, you too. xxx
I recently made a post about the inside and outside voice and I love this post. I also feel more myself when I’m home and around the things that I appreciate and respect and get the same in return.
Thanks for the visit starz…I appreciate your thoughts. 🙂
Such lovely lines. There really is no better feeling than finding one’s voice and an environment that helps that to happen 🙂
You are so right Jeri. Thank you 🙂
Balroop, beautiful reflections on your comfort zone … and aren’t they just that when we can just be ourselves! Those precious moments and the tender details here coast through your poems, the gentle words of I love You from your grandson. Then the personal inner peace is one that we must all find, unaffected by musts, criticism. The fourth stanza resonates particularly with me, to write freely, touch someone’s heart with our words and finally to
‘When I have all the time in the world
To look at the stars.’
Wonderful, heartwarming poem & thoughts! Hugs xxxx❤️
Thank you Annika…I am delighted to note that you liked my random thoughts about the moments that fill our lives with inexplicable joy. What I like about the kids of today is the freedom they have got to say whatever they want to and the way they express themselves frees my heart, which soars with them 🙂 Hugs back to you dear friend.
This poem has brought out so much warmth and love your personality has Balroop! Being happy and reflective in one’s own shell is a quality very few possess. Surrounded by loved ones and laughter, beautiful memories is a true blessing. ❤ !
Thank you so much Radhika, your words seem musical! If we count our blessings, happiness pervades all around us. 🙂
How true it is that we have to take time to truly be ourselves – allow ourselves just to ‘be’ and let our true selves shine through. Thank you for sharing such a lovely poem
I am so happy that you liked it…allowing ourselves to be is the key to a peaceful life. 🙂 Thanks for chiming in!
I love your comfort zone Balroop. It’s from a place like this that we can be ourselves and choose whatever road we wish to take, knowing where to land or come back to when we feel like it.
Thank you for this lovely poem talking to me a lot these days.
Such a comfort zone is created with great effort Marie, after going through the cauldron of circumstantial fire and ash…choosing to stay positive and loving despite all that people do to put you down 🙂 Stay blessed and happy dear friend.
Being yourself is being authentic. I think we struggle to balance this comfort zone (at home) with our external world expectations. But, I wish I could always be myself wherever I go, whoever I’m with, ALL the time. Lovely poem, Balroop. I love how your eyes sparkle when you are with your grandchildren.
Expectations no longer bother me Lisa…my journey is devoid of any angst that forces its way onto my path. I choose whatever I like but this phase was accomplished after traversing the tedious and thorny path that tried to block my growth. I still chose to fly high. 🙂
And it really shows! xoxo
Thanks Lisa! Have a wonderful day 🙂
Beautiful poem, Balroop, that truly speaks to who you are as a person. It comes through in your words.
Thank you Diana…delighted to see you back! Hope your break was rejuvenating. 🙂
It was, Balroop. Now I’m catching up and need a break! 🙂
Beautiful poem, Balroop. Being ourselves and listening to the divine voice within is not so easy in today’s fast life. You’ve deeply touched the inner cords of the mind with your words…. 🙂
As I have mentioned in one of my replies earlier, it was not easy…people don’t let you be yourself, time plays havoc with our thoughts and desires…I always say that I have emerged out of the cauldron of circumstances. My heart may be scarred but my spirit soars, forgiving all.
‘Talk to yourself at least once in a Day, otherwise, you may miss a meeting with an EXCELLENT person in this World.’ Your poem reflects the sentiments similar to what is expressed in this quote by Swami Vivekananda. Yes, your comfort zone is a haven of happiness and peace, Balroop. 🙂
Hope you are enjoying your Sunday. Have a great week ahead.
Thanks for sharing that quote Somali…self-talk reveals many aspects of our heart and mind unknown to us. 🙂 Wishing you too a wonderful week.
So many precious moments that make us feel we are loved and those hugs from our grandchildren are priceless and precious 🙂 Beautifully penned Balroop xxx ❤
Thank you so much for understanding how precious moments make our life worth living. Your wishes keep me inspired Sue. Love and hugs dear friend.
