Visual effects were almost complete
Eyes half closed, one hand invisible
A dried tear, a veiled vanity
A relationship gone awry
The picture was ready…
The painter – a half winged bird
Struggling to fly yet feigning finesse
Besieged by promises
Eternal wait…. edgy encounters
Enigmatic appearance after ages!
Misty mornings of camouflaged hopes
Eerie silence, long walks
Through the woods
What is this place? So familiar!
Nostalgia is painfully pleasant
Emotional fetters couldn’t affect
Art and inspiration
Forgotten façade couldn’t fade
Memories of hypocritical love
And gratitude for lessons of life.

This is a beautiful poem Balroop..
This verse spoke to me..
“Misty mornings of camouflaged hopes-Eerie silence, long walks-Through the woods
What is this place? So familiar!-Nostalgia is painfully pleasant “,,
Wonderful.. I think we all wander in the woods at times Balroop walking amid the shadows of emotion with our nostalgic thoughts..
Beautifully scripted my friend
❤ xxx
Thank you dear Sue, I am delighted to know that you could connect with misty mornings…they can be so soothing and refreshing! They possess the power to do away with all the distress. 🙂
🙂 ❤
Your words are rich in positivity, and yet another wonderful work of reality-inspired work!
Thank you Alok. I am glad you found it inspiring though it was veering towards the valley of darkness, I had to pull it harder 🙂
There is beauty in darkness too 😊
Only if we have the resilience and the forbearance!
Beautiful poem. Aptly titled.
Just now I have retrieved you comment from my spam box!! I guess WordPress doesn’t like short comments!! LOL! 🙂
Oh! just 3 days back another WP blogger also mentioned that he found my comment in spam box! usually when someone writes URL, WP sends it off to spam box….but this one.. quite perplexing!! So I guess you’re suggesting that I should post longer comments henceforth? 🙂
Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Sometimes when we are so busy in our lives or the school of hard knocks leave us somewhat beaten but not shaken, as Sue rightly pointed out, we walk in the shadows of our emotions.Lessons of life, quite.
An excellent poem, Balroop.
Thanks dear Traveller…hard knocks fail to vanquish us if we keep our spirits high and efforts tenacious. 🙂
A beautiful poem, Balroop, that captures the complexity of emotions. I like the sense of memory, the nostalgia for what seemed to be and the growth that comes with perspective.
Thank you Diana for analyzing the poem so well just within few words. It is the growth that matters. All the rest falls behind us.
Love this poem about the lessons that life teach us, Balroop. “Eternal wait…. edgy encounters” This line resonated with me a lot. A lot of the time things aren’t served to us on a silver platter. Either we have to be patient to get something or go somewhere we want to, or we have to work hard for it. Or maybe both. Sometimes we might feel we’re going round and round in circles, doing the same thing or looking back to the past.
And your poem segways so nicely into this line, “What is this place? So familiar!” I think a lot of the time our past catches up with us more than we like to think. Not that that is bad – we can always learn from what we’ve done and where we’ve been in order to move forwards. Wishing you a good week, my friend 🙂
Yes Mabel, we have to be patient and you are so right…we do keep going round and round till we develop the skill of taking firm decisions. Sometimes circumstances are so difficult that they don’t let us leap out yet we have to move on…life is like that and slowly we realise the hard facts. 🙂
Thank you for being so understanding dear friend. You have got it right…past keeps creeping up even when we try to shake it off. I have realised that it is better to give a voice to those thoughts to let them settle down and what better genre than poetry to do that! Love you for being such a nice friend. Have a blessed week.
Hi Balroop,
Wonderful yet again 🙂
Captures the emotions to perfection – trust you to come up with such great lines.
Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂
Hi Harleena, hope all is well with you! Thanks for your visit and sharing your reflections. You too have a wonderful week.
A sense of despair veering around optimistically to art and inspiration, unrestrained by emotional fetters, and memories gratefully embracing lessons learnt, are things that keep life in its forward course. Strung in so few words, yet immensely sustaining in its impact, Balroop…
Thank you Raj! You have got all those hidden nuances, it seems. That is the beauty of poetry…one word can convey many emotions only if a person is receptive enough to discern. Many thanks for such a profound insight. 🙂
I so like the contrast present in the line, “Nostalgia is painfully pleasant.”
Life itself is one big paradox of realities and fantasies, of pains and pleasures… 🙂
Such beautiful wisdom and prose Balroop. I loved this line – “Nostalgia is painfully present”. 🙂
Thanks D.G. 🙂
🙂
Very touching and well penned, dear Balroop… Loved the verse: “Nostalgia is painfully pleasant”: so true it is, and you have caught its essence with your words.. lastly, the ending line is a sort of ray of light… Hope should prevail (and it will!)…
sending much love. Aquileana ⭐
Hope never leaves me Aqui, I keep clinging to it even when totally immersed in emotional deluge. Thanks for liking my thoughts and sharing your kind words. Love and best wishes. 🙂
Ohhhh, do I remember this one, “Struggling to fly yet feigning finesse…” I’m a big believer in the ‘fake it ’til you make it’ philosophy, long as the ego isn’t in overdrive. It’s useful in the way of instilling courage for discovering things yet unknown to a person. This ‘cour-age’ (‘coeur’ being French for ‘heart’) leads the way, does it not, into valleys and alleyways where we discover, amidst all the fear and debris, the shining jewel of our potential. Love the poem, Balroop. Aloha and Namaste ❤
Many thanks dear Bela for sharing such beautiful thoughts. Faking has never been my forte but when it comes to emotional distress, it is better to exhibit courage than fall apart and courage is the quality of the mind…faking courage gives great confidence. 🙂
Your reflections are always thought-provoking! I appreciate your inspiration…that also helps us discover newer paths.
Have a wonderful week, dear friend.
❤
“Nostalgia is painfully pleasant” — so true. Wonderful memories, but miss really being there!
Thanks! Memories make life liveable.
The inspiration your words create never cease to amaze. “Art and inspiration…And gratitude for lessons of life.” Gratitude… Thank you Balroop.
Thank you Randall.
This is one of your more complex pieces, I feel. This is powerful: “A dried tear, a veiled vanity
A relationship gone awry
The picture was ready…”
And “the painter was a half winged bird struggling to fly”….you’ve described me 🙂 this is a beautiful piece, Balroop. Thanks for sharing your profound arrangement of words. ❤
Thanks Lisa, I am glad you could connect with this piece but we all feel chained at some stage of life…emotional fetters don’t let us move though they teach us profound lessons. 🙂
Such a wonderful poem Balroop. How accurately you have described the emotional fetters, with the use of apt words such as veiled vanity, edgy encounters, feigning finesse, camouflaged hopes.
Each line is so meaningful that the poem rings close to the heart. Have a wonderful weekend my friend.
Thanks Somali, I am glad you understand these phrases so well…we all meet them in different ways, the sensitive ones try to know them better and others just ignore and move ahead. 🙂
True that 🙂
Emotions do play a severe role in our lives. Sometimes, I think, they play the most to veer our decisions and behaviours. You have beautifully described the play of emotions in our lives through meaningful and profound phrases. The darker shades of life, some not-so-good experiences teach us a lot, lessons of life indeed!
Loved the line, “Nostalgia is painfully pleasant”…so, so, true!
A wonderful poem once again, Balroop! 🙂
Darker shades of emotions steer us through turbulent waters so that we can value whatever we have. Thanks for sharing your view dear Mani, much appreciated.
**The painter – a half winged bird**
Love that line! xx
